GPS

  • Keyword: ???
  • Number: 341111822 ???
  • Source: Numb3rs Primacy Episode
  • PowerIcons: Only Cull and Reveal remain. (Not Erode, despite image at location)
  • Brainstorm:
    • Numbers emerge from Spectre's Mojo bag displayed as 341114 1182902.
    • If we interpretted those as being latitude/longitude (in degrees, minutes and seconds), it puts us in Van Nuys, CA (maplink1, maplink2). This corner has a grocery store plaza, a transit bus stop, and a postal drop box -- probably a ringing payphone and a billboard too -- all good ARG landmarks.
    • Instead, the episode displays a satellite image of a dam and those numbers as being latitude/longitude in decimal degrees, which puts it closer to Hollywood (still no where near the dam), at approximately 4650 Los Feliz Blvd; this area is residential apartments (maplink4).
    • In the episode, the GPS readings at the location the characters go to are 34 15 21 59 118 23 22 16, which matches the satellite image of Hansen Dam Recreation Center near San Fernando, CA (maplink3).
    • Theory: Accounting for the fact that the second readings are more accurate (but not decimal), only 9 digits in the original numbers appear in the actual numbers - 341111822.

Alternatively, if we know one of the ShutdownKeys is amita, and since Amita was the one who looted the mojo bag, these numbers could represent a shutdown key instead of the keycode for Erode.

  • Keyword: ??? (Not "Argentina," capitalized or not.)
  • Number: 208525138
  • Source: Numb3rs Primacy Episode
  • PowerIcons: Reveal???
  • Brainstorm:
    • The number appears near the beginning of the episode and means "the beach." The show didn't press the matter, but it might be another nine-digit key code.
    • A few seconds after Charlie transliterated the number, Amita noticed an outline which might belong to a zip code with a beach. The name of this location might be the key word. (Somebody should put up a wiki-approved shot of this outline. A link to a Photobucket image is below.)
    • Just to cover all the bases, the bar code says "Primacy - secrets of the city 208525138".

Cull

CAPTURE

Congratulations, you solved One in the Hand, one of the locks for Cull.
Morality Game: The Bird
You are born in a poor mining village. The network of caverns beneath the village produces gems of exquisite beauty worth fortunes in the distant capital. But scraping them from the earth is cheap and dangerous work. Until you are old enough to descend into the mines, your job is to catch and cage the birds that are used to test the air for poison. One morning you find a bird that is singing a song more beautiful than anything you have ever imagined. Choose a gray disc to remove.

You're driving up a mountain road, late at night. Suddenly, a deer appears in your headlights. You consider swerving to avoid the deer, but that would risk crashing through the guardrail and driving off the edge of the mountain. You remember that the trunk of your car holds something of great value, and great danger. As you consider the various options you feel your mind float up, until you are looking down at the car and the deer, suspended in time. Choose a gray disc to remove.

Morality Game: The Athlete

You are a professional athlete who earns millions of dollars a year. Your name is used to sell everything from alcohol to acne cream. To children you are a hero, to your opponents you are an executioner, to your owners you are a money machine. Its the day of the big game, and everyone is counting on you. As you stare at the empty scoreboard the screaming fans fade away and you realize the game has become a joyless nightmare. Choose a gray disc to remove.

A Game is Not a Product
A game is a process. You can't go into a store and buy Soccer, or Bridge, or Tennis, or Charades. A game is a set of rules that creates an experience, not a piece of media to be consumed. You can burn a game onto a shiny, plastic disc, and put that disc in a box on a shelf and sell it, but you aren't selling the game, you're just selling the disc. These discs won't be around for long.

The Game of War
It is a commonplace among historians that the surface causes of war - religious difference, ideological conflict, revolutionary struggles - are actually just a mask for the operation of economic forces; the acquisition, multiplication, and protection of wealth by any means necessary. But have they considered the opposite? That economics, the endless exchange of empty values and meaningless tokens, is just a mask for the primal motivator of all human behavior, the desire to kill, always buried deep in our pocket, where it rattles away against our loose change like a time bomb?

The clue is "slow text" which would point to the 2=ABC, 3=DEF, etc. nature of the keypad. On the rotary dial, you can't see the order of the digits, so taking them in this order and looking at the letters, you get:

The Origin of the City of Golems
The first golem was an unlucky construction worker who was tired of having his heart broken. One day, perhaps by accident, perhaps in a stroke of brilliant insight, he dipped his left hand into a barrow of wet cement, and then watched it harden around his fingers into an impenetrable armored glove. No more bruised knuckles, no more hammered thumbs, no more nails bitten to the infected quick. More importantly, no more hypocritical handshakes, no more insincere pats on the back, no more pushing buttons, and no more reaching out to touch someone and finding nothing there.

The Golems at Play
In their unbreakable stone shells, the hearts of the golems were safe from sadness and disease. The golems were slow and clumsy, but sometimes they remembered what it felt like to throw and catch, to run and kick, to fall and hurt, and get up again. The golems had no games, but would gather in giant festivals to watch a violent spectacle in which professionals acted out a crude parody of games. And the golems were perfectly happy, because they had forgotten what it meant to play.

Visit the most famous boarding hotspots on the planet:
-Syria -The Solomon Islands

  • Solve: The clue for this one is "Shred with the stars." If you count the number of stars on the flag of each of the listed countries, you get: Syria = 2, Micronesia = 4, New Zealand = 4, Zaire (now the Republic of Congo) = 1, Solomon Islands = 5, Liberia = 1, Cook Islands = 15, Samoa = 5. The City of Golems in Ruins
Here is a colossal stone tower casting a solitary shadow, like a sundial. There is the network of marble tombs in which they lived, now choked with vines. In the distance you can see a mountain of crumbling clay tablets, the sum of all their knowledge and beliefs. The way can be treacherous, but some of the children go climbing there for fun. And here is a pile of the gravel they used for coins. Take one as a souvenir, they're worthless.

Nothing is more valuable than the search for patterns. The ability to sift through the garbage of modern life for the glimmer of gold that indicates something of irreducible value - honesty, friendship, generosity - the ability to invert noise and find its secret meaning, this is perhaps the most valuable skill one can have.
